Chapter Philanthropy and Service

Please visit our new website for more information about our philanthropy and service:

Zeta Tau Alpha’s philanthropy is breast cancer research and awareness; a philanthropy that has numerous personal ties and connections with the members of Theta Tau.

Zeta Tau Alpha has a widespread presence on campus and works to promote involvement in our philanthropy to UNC as a whole. Every year we have a Think Pink Week in the Pit, host “Pink Out” games with the UNC Athletic Department, present a Bright Pink Workshop, and hold a “Big Man on Campus” male beauty pageant. These events seek to spread education and awareness as ZTA members distribute ribbons, breast self examination cards, and informational packets. Our philanthropy is well known throughout the UNC campus-- pink ribbons adorn the backpacks of hundreds of students.

Zeta Tau Alpha’s main philanthropy event is our Franklin 5k in the spring. The Franklin 5k is the oldest and one of the largest 5ks at UNC Chapel Hill. Our members start planning this event early in the year and consistently raise over $60,000 for UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, Chapel Hill Breast Cancer Foundation, The Arc of the Triangle, Ashton’s Angels, and the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation. Theta Tau has raised nearly $300,000 over the past 5 years! Zetas look forward to the Franklin 5k all year long, and we are extremely proud of our event. You can find out more about the Franklin 5k at: .

Next to our national philanthropy, Zetas serve the local Chapel Hill community year long. We plan at least one service event each month. Our service chair is open to any suggestions for service events and encourages members to bring new ideas to the table.

This past year alone, we volunteered at The Ronald McDonald House, local elementary schools for "Trunk or Treat" and Easter Egg hunts, Girls on the Run, Extraordinary Ventures, UNC Hospitals, Habitat for Humanity and Hope Gardens for their Hunger Outreach. Next semester, we are planning events with the Carolina Tiger Rescue and the local Animal Shelter.

Service is a huge part of the Zeta Experience as we reach nearly 100% participation at the majority of our events. As Zeta Tau Alphas, we pride ourselves on our service to the community.
